Benign diseases of the esophagus can present with a variety of symptoms: difficulty swallowing, heartburn, or a feeling of pressure behind the breastbone are common. These symptoms can significantly impact the quality of life of those affected and should not be underestimated.
\nThe most common clinical conditions include reflux disease (reflux of stomach acid), eosinophilic oesophagitis and oesophageal diverticula\u2013from Zenker’s diverticulum to epiphrenic diverticula. The causes of these conditions are varied, and their early diagnosis plays a crucial role in successful treatment.
